Manik Joshi -- Stress Management

Too much stress can be detrimental to our well-being. There are many ways through which we can lower our stress levels.

We must try to determine the root causes of stress at the earliest. Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in our life. Stress can occur from positive and negative events and situations. Positive events involve starting a new job, getting famous, buying a new vehicle/property/house, getting married, etc. Negative events involve financial or relationship problems, study or job pressure, retirement, death of a loved one, etc.

Stress often involves anger, tension, irritability, high blood pressure, headache and depression.

Living a healthy lifestyle is critical for both our physical and mental health. We should be mindful of what we eat. Working out regularly is one of the best ways to relax our body and mind. Exercise let us deal with our stress more calmly.

Listening to music is extremely helpful for me to de-stress. It is scientifically proved that slow or meditative music is a great stress buster.

Reading is another way to ensure that stress doesn’t get to me.

To de-stress, I also enjoy a nice brisk walk or a trek. Spending time in nature is a great stress-buster.

I am an author. I write every day and I think it has been one of the best things I have ever done to relax myself, as well as for my professional life.

In order to relieve my stress, I also try other things that make me feel good.

I have also found that sometimes the best way to relax ourselves is to remove our source of stress. For example we can avoid people who stress us out.

Doing nothing to relax ourselves, will only make our stress worse. But we should never respond to the stress with drug or alcohol abuse. It is also not proper to take out your stress on others. We should avoid indulging in negative activities such as smoking, drinking, gambling, excessive sleeping or overeating to cope with our stress. We should also try our best not to consume pills to de-stress ourselves.

We should keep in mind that no matter what other people say or think or write about us, we are a good person who can't please all the people all the time.

To avoid making our stress worse, we also need to be extra careful to take care of ourselves.
